The original “Dark Shadows” vampire has died.

Actor Jonathan Frid has died at the age of 87, of natural causes. He died April 13 at a hospital in his native Ontario.

Frid is best known for his role of Barnabas Collins on “Dark Shadows,” a popular soap opera in the 1960s.

It quickly became a cult favorite television show and followed Barnabas, a vampire that was accidentally released and moved in with the Collins family on Widows’ Hill.

You’re probably thinking it seems like just yesterday you heard a “Dark Shadows” commercial and you’re right, you did.

The first trailer for Tim Burton’s new supernatural comedy movie “Dark Shadows” was just been released. Even better, Frid makes a cameo appearance in the new film starring Johnny Depp.

“It’s a sad day,” Burton said, according to reports. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet Jonathan on the set this past Spring. He left an indelible impression. Barnabas lives on!”

The movie hits theaters May 11.

“In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family,” reads the caption of the newly released trailer.

The movie follows Barnabas, played by Johnny Depp, who is the master of Maine’s Collinwood Manor. He seems to have the world at his fingertips until he meets witch, Angelique Bouchard, played by Eva Green.

The over 200-year-old vampire returns to Collinwood Manor to find the Collins family, Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, Roger Collins, played by Jonny Lee Miller, Carolyn Stoddard, played by Chloe Moretz; and David Collins played by Gulliver McGrath living there.
