Ace Young and Diana Degarmo brought excitement to the Americal Idol finale past week.
The two past contestants were introduced by host Ryan Seacrest during the finale and called on stage for quite the surprise; they got engaged!
Seacrest first shared with audience some news about the two former Idol hopefuls.
“You moved in together right?” asked Seacrest to which the two, who first met while co-starring in the musical “Hair” on Broadway in 2010. They shook their heads and confirmed.
Seacrest soon handed an extra microphone to Young. “This has always been home to us and I felt that this would be the perfect place to ask a simple question,” Young said to Degarmo as the lights dimmed.
“We have conquered Broadway together,” Young, who appeared on the fifth season of Idol and finished in seventh place, told Degarmo. “We have created new music together. We have an amazing group of people around us and with the help of David Webb Jewelry, I have a way to make this fun last forever. You ready?”
Young bent down on one knee and looked up at Degarmo, who was the runner-up of Season 3. “I love you to death, your my best friend, I want to make this last forever, and I would do anything in my power to have the most imaginable and amazing life together, if you will have me. Diana Nicole Degarmo will you marry me?” he asked.
The two embraced as Degarmo shook her head and agreed. “Put on this ring baby,” Young said with excitement and slid the ring onto her finger.
The engagement wasn’t the only surprise of the night. The performances were jam packed with super stars including Chaka Khan, Fantasia Barrino, Rihanna and Neil Diamond, to name a few. Two of the judges also performed. Steven Tyler and his band Aerosmith, and Jennifer Lopez both took the stage during the finale.
The night culminated with the announcement that Phillip Phillips was the new American Idol winner.
