A brave 80-year-old woman decided to going skydiving to celebrate her 80th birthday but almost plummeted to her death when the top part of her harness slipped off during the dive, the Huffington Post reported.
The octogenarian, Laverne Everett said skydiving was something she had wanted to do for at least ten years, however it didn’t go the way she planned, CBS Sacramento reports.
Though the dive happened last May, the video was just recently posted on YouTube for all the see. It’s now gone viral with almost 150,000 views after being posted for only two days.
In the beginning of the video, and while Laverne is still on firm ground, she’s excited about the jump.
The video takes a disturbing turn when Laverne is supposed to jump out of the airplane. She’s frightened and he hands need to be pried off the sides of the plane before she is pushed out by her partner.
The two tumble out of the plane and Laverne appears to nearly fall out of the harness where she then desperately clings to her partner.
“The upper harness came off, you know,” she said in a recent interview with CBS Sacramento. “Just slipped down, it was just the lower harness, is all I had.”
Luckily for Laverne and her partner, the parachute opens and the two safely land. In the end of the video everyone seems to run to their aid.
After Bill Dause, the owner of the Parachute Center, was contacted by ABC News he said that it had happened awhile ago and “No one got hurt or injured.”
According to the Parachute Center, eight people have died in the last decade, with the most recent fatality in April.
News10 add the facility may have to pay $900,000 in fines to the FAA, though the incidents are not related to Everett’s. The company is also facing three civil lawsuits according to News10.
