New York Knicks captain and NBA All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire got down on one knee for his long time girlfriend Alexis Welch in Paris on Saturday night, People magazine reported. Does it get anymore romantic than that, ladies?

As Stoudemire asked for Welch to be his wedded wife, the Eiffel Tower lights were in view as they sat outside their penthouse at Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile Royal Suite.

Amar’e went all out for his hopeful wife-to-be and mother of his three children. Alexis was shocked when she came back to their penthouse and found a dinner that was set up just for her after took a private historical tour of Paris. The two stopped at landmarks such as the Louvre, but the most exciting part was the dinner.

“I have been planning my proposal for a while and overlooking the entire Paris skyline seemed like a perfect place.  I am so happy she said ‘yes,’ and now we can continue to build our life together as husband and wife,” Stoudemire explained to People while he was still in Paris.

To make the engagement even more special, Stoudemire designed the 8.5-carat radiant-cut ring. How much is Alexis’ love worth to Amar’e? Oh, about a cool $1 million, but Amar’e can’t take all the credit for the ring. Los Angeles-based celebrity jeweler Shayan Afshar helped with the design, according to People. In addition to the monster-sized ring, the setting has 3.50 carats of pure diamonds set in 18-carat white gold.

“I wanted to design the right ring for her,” he was quoted as saying. “I am having a great time looking over and seeing the engagement ring on her finger now.”

So excited about his new engagement, Amar’e took to Facebook to express his joy.

“I’m still floating,” he posted on Facebook. “It’s great to allow someone, you truly trust and know, to take care of your heart. We have been deeply in love with each other for longer than most marriages last.”

The couple has been together for about a decade. The two met in 2002 when Stoudemire was drafted with the Phoenix Suns.

They are planning the wedding for 2013.

Congratulations Amar’e and Alexis but we’re a little sad that you’re officially of the market, for now.
