Lostprophets play at Vans Warped Tour outside Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale on Saturday, July 21, 2012 (Anna Dinger).

Fans of Lostprophets raised their hands and voices high as the Welsh rockers took the stage last Saturday at Vans Warped Tour outside Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.

“If you don’t know us then just make some s*** up or sing a Taking Back Sunday song — but in time and in key,” singer Ian Watkins told the crowd during their half-hour set.

The rest of the post-hardcore alt metal sextet consists of keyboardist Jamie Oliver on backup vocals, lead guitarist Lee Gaze, Mike Lewis on rhythm guitar,  bassist Stuart Richardson and drummer Luke Johnson.

It was their first time ever being part of Warped Tour.  Formed in 1997, they were one of the older bands performing at the festival.

But their performance did not lack luster. Even the older songs managed to feel energized and new.

Watkins introduced the band at the beginning of the performance in his fantastic welsh accent in order to win the crowd over before they played the song, “Bring ‘Em Down,” off of their new album, Weapons.

They also performed “To Hell We Ride,” and “Burn, Burn,” from Start Something and “Rooftops,” from Liberation Transmission.

The tour has since headed south before a few stops out west and concluding the U.S. performances Aug. 5.
