Nassau County police are investigating a shooting in North Valley Stream that left one man dead and another seriously injured, authorities said.

When officers responded to Charles Street at 5:57 p.m. on Monday, they found a 21-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. He was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m., police said.

Officers found another gunshot victim a short distance from Charles Street with a wound to his abdomen, police said. The 22-year-old was transported to a local hospital and is listed in guarded condition, police said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
