Chopin & 19th Century Paris

The award-winning Karkowska Sister Duo comes to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Rd., Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. for a musical tour of 19th century Paris, home to many of the most important composers in the world. This includes Chopin and many others, whose famous works and arrangements will be played on piano and violin. For more information, call 516-938-0077.

Beginners Jewish Meditation Class

A brand new program comes to the Mid Island JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Rd. in Plainview, in 2014. A beginners class on Jewish meditation will reveal simple strategies to relax and find inner peace, experienced through guided visual imagery. Registration for the class is a must as space is limited. To register, call 516-822-3535 ext. 308. This is an eight week class meeting on Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. from Jan. 7 through Feb. 25. There is a cost of $80 for JCC members and $120 for non-members.

Fair Media Council Influencer Series: Savvy And Insight

At Briarcliffe College, 1055 Stewart Ave. in Bethpage, this half-day event of two workshops is designed to help jump start marketing efforts in the new year. The first session will feature predictions for 2014 in media and politics; and the second session explain social media marketing. During the first session, Michael Dawidziak, founder of strategic-planning.com, Bradley Gerstman, partner at Gotham Government Relations & Communications, John Leboutillier, host on Fox News Channel’s Campaign Insiders, Frank MacKay, host of The Turning Point, and Ben Mevorach, news and programming director at 1010WINS. After a brief networking break, “Social Media Marketing Made Simple” will provide the latest marketing tools and techniques for business use. Come hear PUMP play your favorite Aerosmith hits — from “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion” to “Dude Looks Like a Lady” and “Rag Doll” — by band members who walk, talk, act and perform just like Aerosmith. Dan Nichols and Eighteen In Concert

Temple B’nai Torah, 2900 Jerusalem Ave. in Wantagh, presents, in one of their only New York appearances, Dan Nichols and Eighteen in concert Saturday Feb. 1, 2014 at 7 p.m. The musicians will bring their wide range of sounds and styles of their energetic Jewish rock music. A fun, interactive class is coming up at HANC of Plainview for children turning 2 by December 31. Cost is $50 for six classes, or pay-as-you-go for $10 per class. Classes will be meeting on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. For more information, contact shecht@hanc.org, or call 681-5922.

Miscarriage Support Group

A safe, confidential, supportive environment in which to talk about what you have been through, your reactions and feelings, and how to move forward. You are not alone! Free Veterinary Lectures

Once a month through December, Long Island Cat Fanciers sponsors free lectures given by top local veterinarians on topics relevant to dog and cat owners. All members of the public are welcome to. Clutterers Anonymous (CLA)

A 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Meets at the following locations: Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 265 Asbury Ave, Westbury first and third Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the School of the Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Rd, Manhasset. Plainview Lions Club Meeting

Serving the Plainview-Old Bethpage and Bethpage communities since 1957, the Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second Wednesday of every month through July. The Lions Club strives to make a difference in local communities and encourages residents to come in and voice thier concerns.
