A teenager who was allegedly high on drugs has been accused of causing a crash that killed a 55-year-old man and injured the victim’s wife and daughter in New Hyde Park.
Nassau County police arrested 17-year-old Deepak Kumar of New Hyde Park on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired drugs.
Police said Kumar was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on Second Avenue when he crashed into a Ford Fusion at the corner of Covert Avenue at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday.
The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. His 38-year-old wife, who was found unconscious, and 6-year-old daughter, who suffered a fractured leg, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers found Kumar to be in intoxicated and took him into custody at the scene.
Kumar will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
