Massapequa residents Catherine Konig and Joseph Fabrizio married on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Giorgio’s Baiting Hollow in Calverton.
The bride is the daughter of Russell and Joan Konig. The groom is the son of Frederick and Patricia Fabrizio.
“I want to congratulate both of them,” Joan Konig said. “I wish them all the happiness in the world and long lives together. They deserve it.”
Patricia Fabrizio said, “Fredrick and I wish love and happiness to our beautiful daughter-in-law and handsome son. We want their love to grow stronger every day.”
The bride was escorted by her parents and maids of honor, Jamie Recca and Anne Ormaza from Massapequa, and her bridesmaids Annamarie Galante and Amy Konig from Massapequa and Colleen Maidhof from Medford. Layla Marchese from Massapequa was the flower girl. The groomsmen included Christopher and Kevin Konig. Christopher Fabrizio, Joe’s younger brother, was the best man.

The bride and groom did a sand pouring ceremony during the reception.
“They wanted to do something different from the traditional candle lighting ceremony,” said Joan Konig.”It’s a type of unity ceremony. It expresses the coming together of two people. They had different colored sand and took turns pouring it into a clear glass, forming a layered effect. It’s something they will keep forever.”
Catherine Fabrizio wore two gowns during her morning wedding. During the ceremony, she wore an Ivory lace gown embellished with crystals by Allure with a lace and crystal veil. After dinner, she changed into an Ivory lace gown embellished with crystals by Venus. Her shoes made by Benjamin Adams were studded with hundreds of crystals. Her bouquet from Flower Barn in Seaford contained black and white calla lilies and soft pink, red and black roses.
The cake, decorated with roses, was vanilla filled with cannoli cream and chocolate. The newlyweds didn’t have a cake fight. They neatly cut the cake, even though Joe had other plans.
“Catherine didn’t want to get covered in cake,” said Joan Konig. “Joe wanted to, but she waved her hand and made it clear that she didn’t want to”.
After meeting at Massapequa High School in 2005, the couple was ecstatic to tie the knot, and their family and friends felt their wedding day was absolutely perfect.
Recca who met Catherine at Berner Middle School in 7th grade said, “They found a love that is perfect for the two of them to share. I wish nothing but happiness and a lifetime of love.”
Galante who also met Catherine in middle school said, “They are absolutely perfect for each other, and I wish them nothing but love, health and happiness for the rest of their lives together.”
The newlyweds enjoyed a week-long honeymoon at a resort in Jamaica. They enjoyed activities such as horseback riding and dinners at the beach.
