Beautiful sunny skies on Sept. 3 welcomed both new and returning students to Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf (DEC) and Mill Neck Manor Early Childhood Center (ECC). The school year kicked off with 149 students enrolled in the DEC and 83 children starting classes at the ECC.
As they stepped off buses, or arrived with their parents, the children were greeted warmly by their teachers, teacher assistants, and administrators, including Superintendent Francine
Bogdanoff, DEC Principal Katie Kerzner and ECC Principal Suellyn Giserman. While some little ones looked a bit apprehensive, a small dose of gentle coaxing from school staff had the children marching off to their new classrooms in no time. Older students greeted their friends and teachers with hugs and high-fives. Overall, children and teaching staff alike looked eager to begin a brand-new year of learning.
Mill Neck DEC and ECC are part of the Mill Neck Family of Organizations, a not-for-profit group dedicated to serving children who are deaf and hard of hearing or who may have deficits in speech, language/communication, cognitive and gross and fine motor development.
