Suffolk County police have identified the type of SUV involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a 64-year-old man dead in his hometown of Central Islip over the weekend.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives believe that the driver who left the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian was driving a silver or grey 2014 or 2015 Jeep Cherokee, Limited or Sport Latitude edition. The vehicle sustained damage to the passenger side headlight and passenger side view mirror. Police released photos of the type of vehicle in the hope that someone would recognize it and turn in the driver.

Lorenzo Fuentes was walking to work westbound on Motor Parkway when he was struck by the eastbound SUV at the corner of Highland Road at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, police have said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any information about the incident to call them at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
