The Action Party of Westbury announced it slate of candidates for the village elections to be held on Wednesday, March 18. Among those candidates is incumbent trustee Steven Corte.
The Action Party team emphasizes the experience of its candidates, and is running on its record of maintaining the village’s strong financial health.
“We have always adhered to conservative and prudent fiscal practices and the efficient delivery of services,” said Corte, pointing out the low village tax rate and high bond rating. “We have had all four of our last budgets under the tax cap, and two of those budgets have been zero percent increases in the village tax. At the same time, we have addressed some of our biggest infrastructure needs, including re-paving about 25 percent of all of the roads in the village. This is the kind of stewardship that I believe the residents of Westbury want and deserve.”
A lifelong Westbury resident, Corte is seeking re-election to his third term as village trustee. As trustee, Corte serves as commissioner of planning and as liaison to the Planning Board.
First elected village trustee in 2007, Corte served as a member of the Planning Board from 1993-2010, and as Chairman from 1996 to 2010. During his tenure on the Planning Board, he chaired the committee which provided for the establishment of the Village Master Plan. He has served as the Village Assessor since 2000 and oversaw the successful village-wide Revaluation Program, which resulted in a fairer and more accurate village tax assessment roll and significant tax relief for village residents.
Corte has served as Nassau County’s Deputy Assessor since 2011, and is one of New York State’s foremost experts in tax assessment and property valuation. He holds national certifications in real estate appraisal and assessment.
“I want to continue to use my experience in real estate to advance the re-development that has already been experienced in our village, in order to keep our community vibrant and economically viable into the future,” Corte said. “Serving the community is something that I have found to be very rewarding, and I look forward to continuing to serve our residents as a member of the board. I ask for their support.”
Corte and his wife, Marie, have been married for 37 years and have one son.
