Snow Days All Used Up

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESThe Roslyn School District, like many in Nassau County, only receives two snow days during the course of a school year. Needless to say, both of those days have been used up and so, if the winter weather continues to bring more snow falls and cancellations, the Roslyn School Board of Education will decide how to make up the days.

According to school district officials, the board will either add on extra school days at the end of the year in June or they will take away days reserved for certain breaks, such as the Winter Recess, held from Monday, Feb. 16 to Friday, Feb. 20 or the Spring recess, held from Thursday, April 2 to Friday, April 10.

In addition to snow days, the winter weather forced the school district to reschedule the annual New York State Regents tests. The rests were originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26 and Tuesday, Jan. 27, but were eliminated by a snow day and an early dismissal.

However, the school district rescheduled the tests for Monday, Feb. 2 and Tuesday, Feb. 3 and so that portion of the school year is out of the way. In the meantime, young people can use any future snow days for sledding or making extra money by helping their elderly neighbors in shoveling their sidewalks and driveways. It’s looking to shape up as one of those winters.
