Suzanne Sheridan Band to
play music of King,
Simon and Mitchell
When it came to the ’70s singer-songwriter movement, Carole King, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell all loomed large. For fans of these soft-rock queens, The Suzanne Sheridan Band will be dipping deep into the canons of all three on Friday, March 6, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau’s (UUCCN) Garden Stage located at 223 Stewart Ave. in Garden City.
“My percussionist told me that Joan Baez is quite the flirt,” said Suzanne Sheridan. Her percussionist Marshal Rosenberg (who has performed at Garden Stage), in addition to being wooed by Joan Baez, has also performed with Bonnie Raitt, Emmy Lou Harris, Jonathan Edwards, Judy Collins, David Bromberg, Buskin & Batteau, Aztec Two Step and most recently with Tom Rush at Symphony Hall in Boston. Not all of them, however, have pinched him on the backside. Rosenberg is thrilled to be performing as part of The Suzanne Sheridan Band and doing the music of these three iconic songwriters.
“I have played along with these songs for years and have never played them ‘live,’ and I am thrilled to do so,” said Rosenberg. “In addition, I saw Santana at Woodstock, which inspired me to be a hand percussionist, so playing on Joni Mitchell’s ‘Woodstock’ is my homage to both Woodstock and Santana.”
A Connecticut-based singer-songwriter, Sheridan has gained a popular following for performing the songs of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. This time out, she’ll be performing the best of Carole King, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell.
“We are thrilled and very excited to be performing this concert at Garden Stage,” said Sheridan. “All the musicians love playing this music and needless to say, the audience loves singing along. They taught an entire generation to define themselves through their own unfiltered emotions of pain, joy, love, desire, losing and winning in songs that rocked the world.”
The tunes surely, deeply and personally affected Sheridan and helped her realize just how much one could express in a song. Among the iconic songs attendees can expect to hear are King’s “You’ve Got a Friend,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “It’s Too Late” and “Up on the Roof”; Mitchell’s “A Case of You,” “Big Yellow Taxi” and “Woodstock”; and Simon’s “You Belong to Me,” “You’re So Vain,” “Anticipation” and “Let the River Run,” among others.
