There are members of our Port Washington community who are unable to afford new clothes for the spring. For the past nine years, the Port Washington Parents’ Council has been holding a spring clothing drive for those in need. The Parents’ Council is an umbrella organization for all HSA and PTA organizations within the Port Washington school district. “While we are involved in many aspects of the school community, one that we are particularly proud of is our outreach efforts,” said Port Washington Parents’ Council copresident Stephanie Silverstein. “We coordinate districtwide outreach for school families as well as community members in need in Port Washington.”

You can help by donating clothes for those who need it. Clothes for babies, children, teens and adults are being collected. Some items that can be donated are prom dresses, concert wear for children and teens (black pants and white tops), spring and summer clothing. “This year, we are including prom dresses and concert wear in the clothing drive. These are expensive clothes that are usually only worn once because children grow so fast,” said Silverstein. Only clean clothes in excellent condition are accepted. Donations can be brought to all of the Port Washington schools. There will be donation boxes in the lobbies of all the elementary schools, Weber and Schreiber.
The Parents’ Council also coordinates the fall coat drive, an event that has helped Port Washington families in need for the past 20 years.
Clothing can be dropped off at the schools by Friday, March 27 at 12 noon. Clothing will be available for selection at the Manorhaven Pool on Thursday, March 26 from 4-8 p.m., Friday March 27 from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday March 28 from 9-12 noon.
