Venturing Crew 130 is a high adventure group led and run by girls and boys (ages 14 and up) from the south shore area. Many are also Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts that are also members of Crew 130, a program of Boy Scouts of America.
Taking advantage of the snowy, cold winter, Crew 130 went ice climbing in Connecticut the weekend of March 6. The girls and boys were trained on the equipment and skills of ice climbing. Geared up with special boots, crampons, ropes and snowshoes, they climbed walls from 15 feet to 65-70 feet under the guidance of ice climbing professionals.
With warmer weather here, the venturing crew’s next adventures will include backpacking, camping, biking, kayaking and more. No special skills or equipment are needed to join Crew 130.
