On Friday, Sept. 18, the Southside Civic Association will sponsor a fundraiser, “Steins For Klein” for neighbor and friend, retired NYPD Sergeant Jimmy Klein, who was critically injured in a car accident last year.
Legendary Q104.3 Rock DJ Ken Dashow, famed for hosting the popular Sunday morning broadcast Breakfast with the Beatles, will emcee the event. All profits from the event will help defray medical expenses incurred on Klein’s road to recovery.
On Jan. 7, 2014, Klein was walking home from the train station, just a few blocks from his home. He was struck by a van. Klein sustained a severe head injury, massive internal bleeding, a shattered pelvis, a broken leg and a fractured collarbone. He was in a coma for 42 days. While in the hospital he developed an infection, a blood clot and pneumonia.
Klein has beat the odds and continues to recover. The benefit event will be held at Koenig’s Restaurant, 86 S. Tyson Ave. in Floral Park from 6 to 11 p.m.
Tickets to the event are $50 per person and include four steins of beer, a take-home stein and unlimited roast beef, turkey and fish sliders, and hors d’oeuvres.
Purchase tickets at the door or make checks payable to Southside Civic Association and purchase tickets in advance by mailing to: Southside Civic Association, c/o Treasurer, 180 Beech St., Floral Park, NY 11001. A check presentation to the Klein family will be held at the association’s October meeting.
