Bay Shore Fatal Hit-and-run Probed

A hit-and-run driver killed a 33-year-old man in the victim’s hometown of Bay Shore on Christmas, Suffolk County police said.

Emmanuel DeJesus Cruz Zavala was crossing Candlewood Road when he was struck by a car that fled the scene at 5:08 p.m. Friday, police said. The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses described the suspect’s vehicle as a dark-colored sedan that fled southeast on Candlewood Road toward Commack Road. Investigators believe there is damage to the passenger side’s front fender of the car.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call them at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
