Shirley Crash Leaves Bicyclist Dead

A bicyclist was fatally hit by an SUV while crossing a road in Shirley on Wednesday evening.

Suffolk County police said a man riding his bicycle was crossing Montauk Highway when he was hit by an eastbound Toyota Highlander near Garden Place at 5:30 p.m.

The victim was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not immediately available.

The driver was neither injured nor charged.

Seventh Squad detectives impounded the Toyota was and the investigation is continuing.
