The Family Splash Club

My name is Sophia D’Angelo and I am a Girl Scout from Troop 527 working toward my Gold Award. My project is called The Family Splash Club and it’s an equal opportunity program run through Adventures in Learning which provides the families of the Adventures’ children an opportunity to participate at the Whitney Pond Park Pool. When I was exploring project options last spring, I became aware of the community concern about the Whitney Pond Park Pool being underutilized every year. Adventures in Learning is an organization located right across the street that mentors underserved children, and I saw an opportunity to bring the two together. Getting into the swim of things is not just about recreation! I have created classes to raise awareness of the benefits of getting involved with swimming, which include water safety, health, and social and opportunity benefits. I will be holding sessions beginning this month and will advertise the dates and times. In the meantime, I would like to raise awareness of The Family Splash Club as well! I have been asked by individuals how they can help. This summer, the Town of North Hempstead is offering family memberships at the Whitney Pond Park Pool for $100 in addition to the daily rates. If you are interested in sponsoring a Whitney Pond pool membership (or a partial membership) for a family from Adventures in Learning this summer, you can send a check made out to: Adventures in Learning with The Family Splash Club included in the subject line. Please mail to: Adventures in Learning (Family Splash Club), P.O. Box 1054, Manhasset, NY 11030. For more information about The Family Splash Club, please contact Diana Holden, executive director at Adventures in Learning, at 516-767-9235 or email diana@adventures-in-learning.org. As we head into the warmer months, I know that together we can make a big splash all around.
