East Lake Students Raise Awareness Through Artwork

The Massapequa School District is pleased to announce that students from East Lake Elementary School have been named winners in a pair of recent poster contests.

Three students placed in the annual School Bus Safety Poster Contest sponsored by the Nassau County chapter of the New York Association of Pupil Transportation. The winners included sixth-graders Kimberly Westenberg and Olivia Cristadoro, and first-grader Julia Lomonaco.

Cristadoro’s artwork continued in the competition, and she placed second overall in the sixth-grade through eighth-grade division at the county level.

Participants in the Be Water Wise poster contest received certificates of recognition.

Fifth-grade art students at East Lake, under the direction of teacher Patti Krakoff, participated in New York American Water Company’s Be Water Wise art contest. The students created posters that emphasized the importance of water protection and conservation.

Student Olivia Harris was selected as a winner. She received an American Express gift card and her artwork will be published. All participants received a water bottle and a certificate of recognition.
