A hit-and-run driver killed an 86-year-old pedestrian in the victim’s hometown of Central Islip early Friday morning, Suffolk County police said.
A 911 caller reported finding a body in the road on Suffolk Avenue near the corner of Wheeler Road, where responding officers found Willie Dinkins, who investigators determined was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene shortly before 2 a.m., police said.
The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved is a 2001 to 2005 Honda Civic four-door sedan. The driver’s side, black side-view mirror is missing from the vehicle
