Every January, the ball gets rolling for the World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP). Yes, you read that right. The WSOBP is the largest beer pong tournament in the world. While some beer enthusiasts may argue that it is more popular than the MLB World Series, this tournament attracts hundreds of participants who compete for cash prizes.
Now approaching its 10 year anniversary, the championship, which has been held in or close to Las Vegas since 2006, is for those who take the game far more seriously than a folding table and some Solo cups in a backyard or basement.
All games at the WSOBP and all WSOBP Satellite Tournaments are played using 8-foot Beer Pong Tables with 16 oz. cups and 40mm 3-star Beer Pong balls, all manufactured and sold by www.bpong.com. There’s three rules that the WSOBP stands by: provide fairness to all players; use efficiency in running a maximum number of games simultaneously and minimize possible disputes between participants.
As for the format, this is no mere one-day game of fun, but instead a marathon that spans over three-days with tournament matches scheduled throughout the day. The first two days are for preliminaries, with each team playing six games per day, for a total of 12 games. More than 100 teams will then qualify for the finals that take place on the third day. A bracket of 128 teams is narrowed down to 64 and so on until a champion is crowned.
