Elfriede Gerland (nee Junge), 89, passed away on Feb. 28 surrounded by her loving family. Gerland was a resident of New Hyde Park for more than 40 years, and a longtime president of the Ladies Society of the Plattduetsche Home, where she served in various capacities and played a large role in the German American community. She was a beloved wife, married to Werner for 54 years, as well as a devoted mother, raising her son Roger (Irene), and grandmother to Jennifer and Stephanie. Gerland grew up with four siblings, Herbert (Martha), Hinerich (Edith), Henry (Marga) and George (Gerdar), whom she adored.
