Theresa Farrell, a longtime resident of Roslyn, died on March 24, 2018 in Canton, CT, where she had resided for the last several years of her life.
She was born Theresa Castelluccio on July 1, 1924 at her home on Roslyn Road. At that time her father owned and operated the Polo Lodge. In her later years she was celebrating a birthday meal there. The waiter asked her where she was born and she replied “upstairs.”
In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses and she never forgot her horse’s name—Smokey. She was a 1942 graduate of Roslyn High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of basketball, field hockey and tennis squads. She also participated in school plays. She married her beloved husband Morgan in 1944 and they remained happily married until his death in 1979. When he was in the Navy and overseas in the Pacific during the war she worked at Grummans as a riveter on Hellcat airplanes.
Although she was mostly a stay-at-home mom, she had part time jobs at Shibley’s Daycare and Roslyn Hospital as an aid in the early 1950s. After her children were grown, she worked at St. Francis Hospital as a nurse’s aid from 1968 to 1971 when, at the age of 47, she went to school to become an LPN. She then returned to St. Francis where she worked until she retired.
Theresa sold her house of 40 years on Villa Street in 1992. She eventually moved to Connecticut about 10 years later to be closer to one of her sons and a daughter who had moved there. There she spent the remainder of her life.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 35 years, her sister Elizabeth, and her twin sister Celeste.
She is survived by her brother Frank (Sonny) Castelluccio of Glen Cove, son Dennis of Simsbury, CT, daughter Sally of Newington, CT, son Morgan (Tom) and his wife Beth of Hamilton, MT, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
She was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.
