The Great Neck North boys’ JVA basketball team played Sewanhaka High School at home on Thursday, Dec. 20. This was the Blazers’ sixth game of the season. Going into the game, the team was standing with a record of two wins and three losses.
Some players, including Luke Hakimian, Nathaniel Hakim and Coby Kadouri, led the North team with points scored. On the defensive side of the ball, Matthew Heimowitz had three steals and five rebounds. John Javahari had many assists, which helped his team in scoring. The Blazers’ game was played as a team effort in order to secure the third win—and the first league win—of the season.
The Great Neck North boys’ varsity wrestling team competed against rival Great Neck South on Thursday, as well. Great wrestling matches by Liron Alishian, Jonah Nouriyelian and Judah Nouriyelian kept the Blazers in the competition against the very difficult and tough Great Neck South squad, leading to a win for North.
The Great Neck North winter track team had a meet at St. Anthony’s also on Thursday. This was the team’s fourth match of the season. Results will follow in an upcoming column.
The Great Neck North boys’ varsity swimming team held a home meet against the Oceanside High School boys’ team. The Oceanside team was a tough match up for Great Neck North last season, so the Blazers were swimming hard to pull out a win.
Coby Kavakeb had great swims in the 100-meter butterfly and the 50-meter butterfly—and broke his own personal record in both events.
Aaron Dadfarin competed in the 100-meter backstroke and the 50-meter freestyle event. His placement in each event moved the North team to a strong lead. At the end of the meet, the Blazers were able to come out with the victory and a 3-1 record in the season to date.
