Jazz and Blues Trio at Main

Quinn, Ross & Witt, a soulful jazz and blues trio, will perform jazz standards pop, blues and soul music at 1:30 p.m. in Main’s community room.

 

 

Monday, March 11

Colon Cancer Awareness

Dr. Dimitra Theodoropoulos will discuss how to prevent, diagnose and treat colon cancer, the third most common cancer afflicting Americans of all ages, genders and race, at 1 p.m. at Station.

Tuesday, March 12

STEM Lab Ribbon Cutting

All are invited to the ribbon cutting for the new STEM Lab, located on Main’s main floor opposite the reference desk, at 11 a.m. View upcoming programs in the spring newsletter or stop by the lab to learn about the laser cutter, 3D printers and virtual reality equipment.

American First Lady

Marilyn Carminio will continue her series on the American First Lady with a focus on Barbara Bush and Melania Trump at 2 p.m. in Main’s community room.

Tax Grievance Workshop

Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum will host a free workshop, where residents can learn how to file a grievance of their assessment before the April 30 deadline, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Main’s community room. A Nassau County Assessment Review Commission representative will make a presentation and take questions; 516-571-6210 or ebirnbaum@nassaucountyny.gov.

Budget Workshop at Station

Community members are welcome and encouraged to attend the first budget workshop for the library’s 2019–20 budget at 7:30 p.m. at Station.

AARP Tax Assistance at Parkville

Get help preparing and filing Federal tax returns online every Wednesday through April 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make an appointment at 516-466-8055, ext. 273.

Movie Matinée at Main

This contemporary romantic comedy, based on the bestseller that follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s family, will be shown at 2 p.m. at Main.

Finance Committee Meeting

All are welcome at the Great Neck Library Board of Trustees Finance Committee meeting at 7 p.m. in Main’s large multipurpose room.

Mindfulness Meditation

All skill levels can join expert Carolyn Carpentiere for Mindfulness Meditation to strengthen focus and release stress from 7:15 to 8 p.m. in Main’s community room. Bring a mat or use a library chair.

Health and Healing

Join librarian Mimi Rabizadeh as she discusses the latest research on gut health and how it influences the brain, immune system and overall health at 12 p.m. in Main’s large multipurpose room. Registration is strongly suggested online or at 516-466-8055, ext. 218/219.

Encore Film at Station

An encore of the Wednesday matinée will be shown at 2 p.m. at Station.

Prospective Candidates Search

For the 2019 Great Neck Library election to be held on Oct. 28, prospective candidates are being sought for two seats expiring in January 2020—one on the Board of Trustees to fill Scott Sontag’s seat and one on the Nominating Committee to fill Patrick McDonnell’s seat. A nominee must be a member of the Great Neck Library Association by Oct. 7, 2019, at least 18 years old, a resident of the Great Neck School District and either be a valid library card holder or registered voter with the Nassau County Board of Elections.
