Dr. Ronald Brown, author, writer, explorer and professor, will present Machu Picchu: The Lost City of the Incas at 2 p.m. in Main’s community room.

AARP Tax Assistance at Parkville

Get help preparing and filing Federal tax returns online every Wednesday through April 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make an appointment at 516-466-8055, ext. 273.

Movie Matinée at Main

The film, about Queen Anne and Lady Sarah during early 18th-century England when at war with France, will be shown at 2 p.m.

Basic Google: Intro to Gmail

Learn how to send and receive emails, basic email etiquette and Gmail settings at this workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Main’s STEM Lab. Register online, in person or at 516-466-8055, ext. 230. Indicate if you don’t have a Gmail account, and come in a half hour before class to set up your own free account.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings

Have your blood pressure checked by a clinical nurse from St. Francis Hospital from 12 to 2 p.m. at Station. Also known as high blood pressure, hypertension affects one in four adult Americans, and usually has no symptoms, which is why it is often called the silent killer. Registration is not required.

Parkville Pageturners Film

Enjoy a film about an orphan named Hugo who lives in the walls of a train station at 1:30 p.m. at Parkville.

Classic Games Afternoon

All skill levels can play Scrabble, backgammon or chess with new friends between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. at Parkville.

Encore Film at Station

An encore of the Wednesday matinée will be shown at 2 p.m.

Milton Yarensky Art Exhibit

All are invited to the opening reception of Milton Yarensky’s America from 6 to 8 p.m. in Main’s lower level gallery. The oil paintings of Yarensky, who was born in Brooklyn in 1916 and died in 2008, depict climate change, immigration and the human spirit adapting to a challenging political environment, will remain on view until May 8.

The longtime host will be honored for distinguished scholarship and great service by the University Seminars at Columbia University on April 10. “The Salon is part of a grand tradition,” explained Gross. “In every age and culture, lively minded people have come together to share ideas, experiences and friendship.”

All library locations will accept pet food donations this April.

Pet Food Drive

Donate food for all pets, especially 5- or 10-pound bags or canned dog and cat food, kitty litter, treats and new toys, unopened and in original packaging, at all Great Neck Library locations in April, during the eighth annual Legislative Pet Food Drive sponsored by Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso in partnership with Long Island Cares, which started Baxter’s Pet Pantry in 2009 and has distributed more than 1-million pounds of pet food.

Prospective Candidates Search

For the 2019 Great Neck Library election on Oct. 28, prospective candidates are being sought for two seats expiring in January 2020—one on the Board of Trustees to fill Scott Sontag’s seat and one on the Nominating Committee to fill Patrick McDonnell’s seat. A nominee must be a member of the Great Neck Library Association by Oct. 7, 2019, at least 18 years old, a resident of the Great Neck School District and either be a valid library card holder or registered voter with the Nassau County Board of Elections.
