St. Patrick’s Day may not be as replete with parades and green beer as in years past due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions, but there are plenty of safe shamrock-themed events to attend on Long Island this year.

Tune into virtual shows with traditional Irish folk music and Gaelic dancing. Looking forward to the feast part of St. Paddy’s? Tune into a virtual traditional Irish cooking class. Or catch Huntington’s virtual parade.

What follows is a special edition of our annual guide to LI St. Paddy’s Day festivities.

31 DAYS OF BAGPIPES

A virtual music and film campaign inviting people to take part in St. Patrick’s Day festivities from the comfort of their own homes. The centerpiece of this month-long event is the music documentary, Bagpipes Calling! — an uplifting film celebrating local musicians and the people and places that make them feel at home. Designed as a unique online experience perfectly fit for our quarantined lives, this campaign will bring together a wide, diverse audience of music lovers from Long Island and beyond. andreawozny.com/bagpipescalling

VIRTUAL PARADE

The S PatT.rick’s Day Parade is a beloved annual event that takes place every March in Huntington. Yet the ongoing coronavirus pandemic made a traditional event an impossibility for 2021, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians made the agonizing decision to cancel the 87th annual event. In response to this, parade organizers have decided to host a virtual parade, billed as a direct result of Irish pride and Yankee ingenuity. huntingtonhibernian.com
