Herricks School District is proud to congratulate senior Sasha Stern on being selected as a first-place winner in the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport (LIACF) eighth annual Poetry Writing Review.

Sasha’s poem “Sleeping with my back to you” earned the top spot in the Nassau County eleventh- and twelfth-grade category. Her award-winning work will be featured in a poetry booklet published by the LIACF and she will be invited to an upcoming poetry reading event featuring this year’s winners.

Sasha is a member of the Herricks High School English Scholars Program and has worked extensively with English teacher Mr. Alan Semerdijian, a published poet. “Sasha is a dynamic and talented writer,” remarked Mr. Semerdijian. “This recognition, as well as recent awards in local, regional, and national competitions, is a testament to her remarkable commitment as a student of writing and reading and, of course, her boundless imagination.”
