An investigation into an alleged sexting scandal by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, which threatened to upend his political career, found no evidence that he sent explicit messages to women, a top-ranking Nassau police official said Thursday. Det. Sgt. Patrick Ryder, commanding officer of Asset Forfeiture and Intelligence unit, told reporters Mangano and Karin Caro, founder of the public relations firm Blue Chip Marketing, who was the person identified as allegedly being on the receiving end of Mangano’s provocative messages, did not sext each other.
WCBS-TV New York reported Saturday night that they obtained copies of the sexts, but Mangano said a hacker created a spoof of his cell phone number to fake the messages. Hours after the report aired, police issued a news release early Sunday morning saying Mangano requested a probe into what authorities described as a “spoofing attack” 10 days ago.
