The Second Squad recently reported the arrest of a Dix Hills man in connection with an occupied burglary that occurred on May 26 at 1:20 p.m., in Plainview.
At that time, according to detectives, a 20-year-old resident of a Plainview home heard the front doorbell ring several times, looked out the window and saw no one, and then heard noises coming from his basement that sounded to him like someone attempting to break in.
As the victim started downstairs, he was confronted by a male wearing dark clothing, glasses and gloves, and a scarf covering his face. Police said the subject was carrying a pry bar, which he used to menace the victim while demanding jewelry and cash. The victim led the subject to an upstairs bedroom, where the subject proceeded to fill a pillowcase with jewelry, while ordering the victim back downstairs police stated. As the subject continued to ransack the upstairs, the victim phoned 911 and left the telephone line open.
Second Precinct Police Officers responded to the burglary location and observed the defendant/subject fleeing out the rear of the house. After a foot pursuit and struggle with the officers, defendant John Paccione, age 38, of Dix Hills, was placed under arrest. He was in possession of the burglary proceeds and burglar tools at the time.
Police stated that ensuing investigation revealed the defendant had also committed an unoccupied residential burglary, at approximately 12:30 p.m., also in Plainview. Proceeds from that burglary were also recovered.
Paccione is charged with Robbery 1st, Burglary 1st, Burglary 2nd and Resisting Arrest.
