Editorial: Boom, Boom, Siss, Boom, Bah!

While Charles Dolan wasn’t able to hold his annual Fourth of July fireworks this year, many country clubs did and as they lit up the sky, members inside and non-members outside enjoyed the treat.

John McEvoy of Scicom said, “I live in East Norwich and I watched the Pine Hollow Country Club fireworks and they were great,” he said. “We watched at a friends house.”

Lucky East Norwich residents know where to go to see fireworks.

Rosemarie Colvin called the Pine Hollow Country Club to be sure they were having them on Saturday night. “I told the receptionist that I scheduled a barbecue and wanted to be sure they were having them. She laughed and said a lot of other people called. Its always held on the Fourth, she said. They do a wonderful job and the weather of course was great,” said Ms. Colvin.

The Karppis stepped out onto their patio when they heard the booms on Saturday night, to check out the sky. This year, someone must have cut down a few trees because the view was great.

Then we went in and watched the Macy’s fireworks exhibit on the Hudson River broadcast on TV. All in all, it made for a spectacular night.

Actually the best view was in our backyard. The sounds and sights were so close it was breathtaking! It was especially nice that it was provided by the Pine Hollow Country Club. The Joint Civic Associations held their gala there on May 29. At the East Norwich Civic Association meeting in June they were still talking about it.

Event Chair Rob Brusca praised the staff of the Pine Hollow Country Club saying they were very attentive all night long and that the manager said he was willing to have the group come back.

“They served French champagne and every minute they were serving something. The tables were kept full,” said East Norwich Civic Association President Matthew Meng, adding that Rob Brusca was now the official Entertainment Chairman.

“I parked cars and caddied there as a kid,” said Charlie Doering. It had something for everyone!

We hope your Fourth of July was as spectacular as the one provided by the Pine Hollow Country Club!
