After 31 years of service to the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District, its children and community, Dr. Gloria Bennardo has retired. The Principal of Old Bethpage has concluded her service with the school district.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to work for the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District,” said Dr. Bennardo. “My experiences at Old Bethpage Elementary School and within the district have provided me with wonderful memories. Working with children has been a delight and I learned something new every day.”
Dr. Gloria Bennardo began her career as a Special Education teacher in the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District. For seven years, she worked in classrooms with children with special needs. In September of 1985, Dr. Bennardo became the assistant principal at both Old Bethpage and Parkway elementary schools. In 1988, Dr. Bennardo was named principal of the Old Bethpage Elementary School, a position she held for 21 years. In addition to her responsibilities as principal of the school, Dr. Bennardo also served as the assistant to the superintendent for K-4 programs from September of 1998 through June of 2001.
Throughout her years within the district, Dr. Bennardo has worked with thousands of children and their parents. “In the time that I have served the school district, her dedication and commitment to the students and faculty has never waivered,” praised Superintendent Gerard Dempsey. “Dr. Bennardo always puts the children first, providing a healthy, safe and instructionally rich environment in which the children can thrive.”
The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District thanks Dr. Bennardo for her service to the schools and the community. We wish her the best for a long, happy and healthy retirement.
