Serving Spirits at Spirit Day
The area at New Hyde Park Rd. and Dartmouth St. will be transformed into the annual playground known as Spirit Day. Rides, attractions, vendor’s music and food all add up to a memorable day. At 5 p.m., an outdoor Mass will be offered. The evening will culminates with the drawing of the Big Bucks Raffle winners. Plan on spending some time at Spirit Day, where fun food and laugher will all be in store.
County Fair
Held at the Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Pky., Floral Park, Sept. 19 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This wonderful family event is a traditional county fair with Blue Ribbon competitions in livestock, produce, arts and crafts and more. Early American craft demonstrations, pie eating and corn husking contests, pig racing, birds of prey show, make your own scarecrow, petting zoo, hayrides, carnival rides, midway, magic and ventriloquist shows and musical entertainment. Enjoy an Irish band and dancers on Saturday and a German band and dancers on Sunday. Visit the Bavarian Garden, food and craft vendors. The Amazing Maize, a 3-acre corn maze adventure, will be open at the fair (maize admission $8 adults; $5 children ages 4 to 11; age 3 and under free). Held by the Floral Park Junior Woman’s Club to benefit its scholarship fund. College and Career Night
Sponsored by the Sewanhaka Central High School District and the Sewanhaka Central Council of PTAs at 7 p.m. at New Hyde Park Memorial High School, 500 Leonard Blvd., New Hyde Park. Representatives from approximately 100 colleges, universities, technical and business schools, schools specializing in specific areas, military academies and the Armed Forces will be in attendance to speak with parents and students. Village-Wide Garage Sale
Sponsored by the Junior Women’s Club of Bellerose from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bellerose LIRR parking lot, Superior Rd. With over 50 families participating, there are bargains for everyone. GOP Dinner Dance
The Stewart Manor-New Hyde Park Republican Club will honor two outstanding individuals, Anthony Corrao of Stewart Manor and Jim McHugh of New Hyde Park. A dinner dance in their honor will be held on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Umberto’s Restaurant, 633 Jericho Tpke., New Hyde Park. Anthony Corrao has been instrumental in aiding people with disabilities and ailments in the community. As a charter member of the Elmont Lions Club, he organized an annual pancake breakfast and theater night with profits going to purchase two service dogs for the blind. James “Big Jim” McHugh is an accomplished pharmacist by trade and unwavering defender of his community by vocation. He serves on the executive board of the Parks Civic Association and has championed numerous causes in the pursuit of maintaining and enhancing the suburban quality of life in the New Hyde Park community. Flu Shots to Be Administered
This year’s flu shots will be administered Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Floral Park Recreation Center. Registration is required. As in prior years, the program will be administered by the L.I.J. Medical Center. You will need to present your Medicare card in order to receive your shot. Marketing Seminar/Networking Event
