The Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library has just been named a 5-Star Library for the second time by Library Journal, the country’s oldest and most respected publication for the library field.
Based on data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Plainview-Old Bethpage was rated along with 7,268 libraries across the nation. Overall, the LJ Index scores libraries according to four per capita output measures that indicate public service – circulation, visits, program attendance and public Internet use. The top libraries are assigned five, four or three stars.
“We are thrilled to receive our second 5-star rating and hope that residents continue to view the Library as their community gathering place. We are open 76 hours a week, and invite everyone to apply for a library card, attend a lecture or concert, get involved in a book discussion group, or just use the Library’s Wi-Fi connection. We are here to serve our patrons’ needs for books, DVDs, reference service, audio books and more. We look forward to adding new materials to our collection and offering new services to our customers,” said Library Director Gretchen Browne.
Media attention in recent months has focused on the key role libraries are playing during the current economic downturn. America’s Star Libraries identifies libraries nationwide that are delivering exceptional service, and Plainview-Old Bethpage has once again risen to the top echelon.
