Bob Windorf To Direct Run For Long Island’s Aspire Program

Bob Windorf of Williston Park has once again signed on to be the Director of the 33rd annual Nationwide Insurance 10 Kilometer Run for ASPIRE, Long Island’s oldest continuously held 10K run. Windorf is inviting athletes of all ages and levels of ability to join him for the Run on Saturday, March 27th at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School in Plainview .

The ASPIRE 10K will once again be utilizing the traditional challenging but fair course through the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage, starting and finishing at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School on Washington Avenue in Plainview. Race Director Bob Windorf of the Greater Long Island Running Club is once again hard at work putting together an event that promises to be the biggest and best ASPIRE run ever.

The run will continue to provide awards in age groups through 85 plus. Top male and female overall and masters finishers will take home a pair of Mizuno running shoes. Every entrant will receive one of the high quality long-sleeved Run for ASPIRE shirts. Other great perks of the ASPIRE 10K include free massage, a fun run for the kids before the main event, and a nice post-race raffle to cap the morning.

The club is pleased to have the continuing financial support of Anthony Wiszowaty of Nationwide Insurance, with his agency and many of the other Nationwide agents on Long Island stepping up to honor the memory of GLIRC’s and Nationwide’s own Stanley Kramberg. Thanks to their support, the entire net proceeds of the event once again is being turned over to the ASPIRE program for the rehabilitation of young amputees, and ASPIRE’s Stanley Kramberg Memorial Scholarship Fund.

While the ASPIRE 10K is very much geared toward the average recreational runner, the Club will once again also offer a $500 prize if the first male runner to cross the finish line breaks the course record of 30:27 set by Pat Peterson in 1988, and a $500 prize if the first female runner to cross the finish line breaks the women’s course record of 34:55 set by Angela Hearn in 1989.

For entry forms or more information call Mike or Linda at the Greater Long Island Running Club office 349-7646, or you can register online at www.glirc.org.
