The Farmingdale School District continues its commitment to the community by making fiscally sound decisions in light of the economic downturn. This past spring, the community voted to use funds from the capital reserve to replace windows at Farmingdale High School. There was no increase to the tax levy as a result of the community’s decision and no further financial commitment is necessary. This work is part of the district’s long-term energy savings plan.
The district has been able to accomplish an enormous amount of work during the last several years at very competitive pricing. We are having most of the windows replaced during the winter months, which pushes contractors to significantly drop their bids.
This project will be funded by the district’s capital reserve fund, at no additional cost to the taxpayer. The district decided to start the project in the winter as a cost-saving measure. The district also took advantage of the struggling economy and was able to minimize rates for construction costs, thus saving $1.7 million.
The project will begin this winter and is scheduled to be completed during the 2011/12 school year.
