Community Invited to Grand Opening of Second Location
Things are about to get even sweeter in Garden City at the upcoming grand opening of Cupcake Corner Too! on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 2-5 p.m. Residents can stop in to enjoy a host of giveaways, taste a sampling of six types of new specialty cupcakes, as well as learn about upcoming adult and children’s classes.
Established in October 2009, The Cupcake Corner’s original location has quickly become a hot spot on the West End of Garden City. Village residents and proprietors John and Laura Graney say their idea to open their own business spawned out of a desire to have a shop in the neighborhood where they could enjoy a quick bite and relax.
“We wanted a very nice place with all natural foods for the community,” she explains. “We felt that we were giving something to the neighborhood that I personally wanted. The response from everyone has been great. The Welcoming Club of Garden City and the village have been wonderful to us,” Laura said.
A family-owned and operated business, Laura enlisted the help of her daughter, Lisa Romero, and niece, Lora Tusa, both of whom happen to be chefs and top-notch bakers. The duo designed a menu that caters to breakfast and lunch customers, along with parents and kids. Customers can also indulge in a variety of fresh crepes, quiche, wraps and soups.
In addition, baked goods, homemade ice cream, custom cakes and, of course, cupcakes, along with gourmet coffee and teas are available. “We introduce a new cupcake flavor each week to complement the existing 18-20 flavors we currently offer on an ongoing basis. We have a pretty big menu, and our chefs make all of the food each morning on premises using only the freshest and finest ingredients,” Laura said.
When it comes to their signature cupcakes, Laura says the customers do have a say in the selections. “We take suggestions from a lot of people, mostly children. We’ve done 60 specialty flavors and we’ve done a few crazy ones that either the chefs come up with or the kids,” she says, adding that the Cookies and Cream and the French Toast and Bacon Cupcakes remain top sellers.
As The Cupcake Corner’s business expanded to include special events, children’s birthday parties and classes, the need for a second location was apparent. Right across the street, Cupcake Corner Too! will have ample space for parties and special events. “We’ve been hosting parties since the first weekend we opened. We began to get requests for bridal showers and baby showers, and more requests for larger children’s parties and the need for larger accommodations became increasingly necessary,” Laura commented.
Children’s parties include one sit-down activity such as ceramic painting, chocolate lollipop making, scrapbooking, jewelry making, glamour girl parties, afternoon tea and storytime, fondant decorating, or karaoke slumber parties.
Laura says the staff always receives positive feedback on the amount of the attention that is given to the children. “Our parties are very hands-on and we teach children skills while they have fun and socialize with their peers. We will continue to utilize The Cupcake Corner in conjunction with Cupcake Corner Too! for parties, showers, Ladies Night Out Events, Girl Scout and Boy Scout events, Book Club Meetings, and summer camp,” she said.
Cupcake Corner, Too! is located at 62 New Hyde Park Road in Garden City. For more information, call 516-328-CAKE (2255); or visit the store website at www.thecupcakecornergc.com.
