And here come the rumors.

Facebook announced some huge changes this past week so it’s expected for a few rumors to go viral with some wild claims.

A most popular rumor making its rounds on Facebook is that the site will be charging users.  All day, Facebook users have been spreading messages about new Facebook pricing and membership subscriptions.

Some status updates warned that Facebook would soon be charging like this one:

“THIS IS OFFICIAL… IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS… FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES… IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON, IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NOT PAY!!”

Other status’s providing subscription descriptions plagued the social media site like this one:

“FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP. $9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBER SERVICES $3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBER SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR PAYMENT INFO…IT IS OFFICIAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS. FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES. IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NOT PAY.”

Mashable.com noted that it’s a completely untrue rumor that Facebook will soon start charging users. Facebook still features a “It’s free and always will be” on its homepage and we expect it will remain that way, after all, the site is expected to rake in over $4 billion this year in advertising alone.

Earlier this week, During the F8 Conference in San Francisco, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Facebook’s latest features including everything from music to food, and he sure didn’t mention a payment plan.

What Zuckerberg did mention was the latest Facebook update, a new feature that will put together a complete history of a users Facebook life right on their profile page called Timeline. As we previously reported, timeline will change how a users Facebook page looks and will display a large cover photo that will dominate the top of your page. Even more interesting, the new Timeline feature will allow users to check who unfriended them. Facebook hopes the new feature will better express who you are and apparently who your real friends are.
