New York State police said a woman stabbed her 58-year-old ex-husband during a heated argument at their North Bellmore home, let him die without calling for help and then dumped his body less than two miles away on the side of a road where a jogger found him about four hours later Friday.
Nancy Boland, 56, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, police announced during a Saturday news conference at state police barracks in Farmingdale.
“The victim was stabbed during a domestic incident at their house” on Waltoffer Avenue on Wednesday evening, said Lt. William Hulse. Nassau County medical examiners determined Walter Boland died of a single stab wound to the lower abdomen sometime Thursday.
Troopers said Nancy put her ex-husband’s body in her Toyota Camry at about midnight Friday and drove around for a while before dumping him at about 4 a.m. just south of the Southern State Parkway near a jogging path that runs alongside the northbound side of the Wantagh State Parkway.
Walter Boland’s body was discovered by a jogger at about 8 a.m., police said.
Police said they identified Walter, who is unemployed, through his fingerprints on file from a prior arrest. Nancy Boland confessed shortly after Troopers showed up at her house to notify her of the discovery, police said, adding that she is cooperating with the investigation.
Police declined to discuss further details of the case, citing the continuing investigation. The nature of the fight that led to the alleged stabbing was not clear. The pair had no children, police said.
Boland was charged with first-degree manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence. She will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Her lawyer, David Besso, told The Associated Press Walter Boland “an abuser” and said the couple had been to court previously accusing each other of domestic violence.
