It’s finally here—well the trailer is at least.

Director Peter Jackson and the people behind the big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” released the movie’s trailer on Tuesday; bringing us back to Middle Earth and where the story of Frodo and the dangerous ring all began.

The dark trailer gives a sense of uneasiness as a young Bilbo Baggins is set to embark on a dangerous journey that seems to hint at similar themes from Jackson’s previous “Lord of the Rings” movies. Bilbo doesn’t quite know what waits beyond the friendly confines of The Shire, but after being recruited by the wizard Gandalf, he and a host of other men begin a dangerous adventure.

In the prologue to the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, Bilbo discovers the infamous ring that he later passes on to his nephew, Frodo.

Aside from Gandalf, “The Hobbit” will also reintroduce fans of the previous films to characters who appeared in the trilogy.

It’s hard to believe, but the “Lords of the Ring” trilogy ended in 2003 with “The Return of the King.” Jackson won an Oscar for Best Director for the film, which also won the Academy Award in 10 other categories.

Jackson announced the news of the trailer on his Facebook “Fan” page, and the post has received more than 17,000 likes and more than 4,000 shares. The movie is expected to be released in December 2012.

The official “The Hobbit” Twitter page also sent out a link to the trailer along with a link to the movie’s official website:
