Drew Brees: Breaks NFL Record (Video)

Picture 51In Week 16 of the NFL season, the New Orleans Saints beating the Atlanta Falcons would be pretty exciting. But the 45-16 win that the team took home this past Monday, was the last thing Saints fans were talking about.

There was something a little more exciting. One New Orleans Saints player broke a major NFL record during the game.

Quarterback, Drew Brees, was hoping to score a touchdown on the Falcons and did just that, while also breaking Dan Marino’s NFL passing record.

“Thanks to @DanMarino for his class and support during this run. It is an honor to attempt to follow the example he set for us all,” Brees later tweeted.

27 years ago, Dan Marino broke the record with 5,084 yards in a single season but Brees broke that record with 5,087 yards. And this isn’t his first season with over 5,000 passing yards. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 5,000 twice. In 2008, he had 5,069.

Brees broke the record with the help of a touchdown pass to Darren Sproles near the end of the game. Clearly there were many things to celebrate following the game and Brees did just that.

“Celebrating with my teammates. Such a special night. Thanks to so many for making this possible. Who Dat Nation…I love you,” he tweeted.

Check it out.
