Officer Kills Pit Bull That Attacked Cop in Roosevelt

A Nassau County police officer shot and killed a pit bull that attacked his partner while the two were investigating a report of gun shots fired in Roosevelt shortly after midnight Sunday, authorities said.

The officers responded to the sounds of gun shots coming from the yard of a home on Park Avenue but as the officers got out of their patrol car, a white pit bull was unleashed in the backyard and charged them at 12:10 a.m., police said.

The dog left one officer with multiple puncture wounds on his upper thighs. Another officer shot the pit bull, who later died.

The bitten officer was treated at a local hospital for his injuries and later released. Police later found numerous .380 caliber and shot gun shell casings at the scene.
