“Ideally if you’re a fan of the show and it’s been off the air for a year and a half, you’ll be excited for it to come back on,” says Jon Hamm who plays Don Draper in the series, during the clip “A Look At Season 5.” “Hopefully the absence in this case has made the heart grow fonder.”
The new season of Mad Men is set to premiere tonight. The two-hour premiere of season five of the hit show will air at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
“It’s been an amazing season so far, a lot has happened,” Hamm reveals. “They’ll be some significant surprises for people.”
The series produced by Matthew Weiner first premiered July 19, 2007 and completed its fourth season in October 2010. The favored show has proved successful and won 15 Emmys, four Golden Globes during its time on air.
The series hit a bump in the road following the fourth season and to fan’s dismay, the show embarked on a long hiatus due to negotiation disagreements with studio Lionsgate and AMC.
The fued over details of the new season left fans without Mad Men for more than a year. Fans were left to fill their Mad Men void by watching reruns and shopping at Banana Republic and snagging looks from the store’s Mad Men collection.
The dispute, according to reports, which came down to AMC’s cost-cutting demand to shortern each episode’s running time, eventually ended in a compromise and fans will get their favorite show back tonight.
For first time viewers, the series is set in the 1960s at fictional advertising agency Sterling Cooper on Madison Avenue in Manhattan.
