Uncle Drew is his name and basketball is his game.
NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving underwent a funny transformation recently to prank some streetball players, all in the name of Pepsi.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star sat through hours of makeup to transform from a young basketball star to an elderly man named Drew, who was still just as good at the game despite his advanced age.
In one scene of the Pepsi short film, Drew sat on the sideline of his nephew Kevin’s basketball game. “Don’t play around with these kids now” he told Kevin while sitting on the bench and watching the boys play.
The prank began when a player became injured and Uncle Drew became the chosen replacement. “We need another player,” said Kevin before suggesting Uncle Drew as the replacement. “I think my Uncle Drew could play.”
Uncle Drew was pointed to guard “the smallest person on the court” as most of the players rolled their eyes and wondered why the elderly man was allowed to play with them. Drew quickly taught them a lesson on judging a book by its cover and went from missing shots to dunking and landing 3-point shots left and right on the young players.
A video of the prank later went viral this past week and has gained over 1 million views already.
“Pepsi MAX went to a pick-up game in Bloomfield, NJ pretending to shoot a documentary on a basketball player named “Kevin.” When his Uncle Drew came into the game, some magical things happened,” reads the video caption.
