Long Island Weather Rainy Before Sunny Weekend

Heavy rains flooded streets and forced a road closure Monday in the first of a couple of wet days ahead before the skies clear for a warm, mostly clear Memorial Day weekend.

Nassau County police urged drivers to avoid Nassau Boulevard in Garden City, which was closed in both directions at Merrilon Avenue due to flooding Monday morning into the afternoon. The road has since been reopened.

Upton-based National Weather Service meteorologists forecast scattered showers and fog with a possible thunderstorm through Monday afternoon, when highs will reach 61.

Showers and fog will overshadow Tuesday with highs near 70. There will be a slight chance of showers and possible thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon through midnight.

The forecast is expected to clear up by Thursday and Friday with highs near 75 and dropping down to 61 at night.

The holiday weekend will be mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday with highs near the 70s with lows around the 60s after sundown.
