Skate parks have been around since the 1970s, but a recent resurgence has new ones popping up all around the country.
Since Long Island is always on the cutting edge of trendiness (or we at least try to be), there are several skate parks right here in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Many people oppose the idea of a skate park in their neighborhood, because they feel it will lead to teenagers loitering in the area.
Others argue that it’s good for the community because it give kids an organized, outdoor, physical activity to partake in. They feel that the parks actually help prevent kids from hanging out and getting into trouble.
Whether you like them or not, there’s no denying that skate parks give skaters a place to meet up and work on new tricks on everything from half pipes to grind rails and street courses.
