Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary Featured in Toyota & Audubon Exit the Highway Promotion

audubonTheodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center is part of a new national program called Exit the Highway, created by Toyota and the National Audubon Society to encourage people to spend more time in nature this summer.

At ExitTheHighway.com, road trip itineraries, including one for New York, feature nearly 100 outdoor destinations to enjoy. For every initial pledge to explore nature and for every photo of a nature stop shared online at ExitTheHighway.com, participants are also entered to win a Toyota Prius v, a new evolution in hybrid vehicles with more cargo space and Prius’ heritage of environmental performance and fuel economy.

“What lies just beyond our highways is a treasure trove of outdoor space and natural habitats,” said Ted Scherff, TRSAC Center Director.  “Visitors and residents alike will be surprised at the hidden natural wonders right in our backyard.”

The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center was established in 1923 as the first Audubon Songbird Sanctuary in the nation. The Sanctuary features 13 non-releasable birds of prey, which include hawks, owls, falcons, and a vulture, as well as several species of reptiles and amphibians. Visitors can view the birds of prey outdoors in a menagerie of aviaries, step inside the Visitor Center to become acquainted with reptiles and amphibians from throughout the world, and take a stroll along the shaded nature trails.

To start planning a nature adventure, take the pledge at ExitTheHighway.com, or Causes.com/Toyota. In addition to taking the pledge, The Exit the Highway website also allows travelers to:
