Emmy Awards 2012: ‘Mad Men’ And ‘American Horror Story’ Lead Nominees

Early Thursday morning Kerry Washington and Jimmy Kimmel revealed what everyone has been waiting for, the nominees for this year’s Emmy’s Awards.

Many predictions were made earlier this week about nominations and all involved were holding their breath until the nominations were announced. Many shows like New Girl, Mad Men, 30 Rock and Modern Family were among the favorites when experts were asked about possible nominees. But were they right?

The big winners Thursday morning were Mad Men and American Horror Story, earning 17 nominations. These nominations for Mad Men included best drama series, best actor for Jon Hamm, and best actress for Elisabeth Moss. Downtown Abbey fell just behind Mad Men with 16 nominations is also a contender for best drama series. The other nominations included outstanding lead actor in a drama series and outstanding lead actress in a drama series.

On the funnier side of the nominations Modern Family earned 14 nominations, which pleased its enormous fan base. These nominations included best comedy series, best supporting actress for Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara, and best supporting actor for Ed O’Neil, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ty Burrell, and Eric Stonestreet. Other comedy nominations went to the Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and newcomers Girls and Veep.

Last years most nominated shows included 30 Rock, The Good Wife, Modern Family and Mad Men. This year things have changed bringing new shows into the nomination pool such as New Girl and Homeland.

Other big winners were Hemingway & Gellhorn, earning 15 nominations, and Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia, which earned 13 nominations.

The Emmy’s will be broadcasted live in ABC on September 23 at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will host the live show.
